I had a letter from my sister yesterday。 She lives in Nigeria。

［昨天我收到了姐姐的一封信，她住在奈及利亞。］

In her letter， she said that she would come to England next year。 If she comes， she will get a surprise。

［在信中她說她明年將到英國來。如果她來了，她會感到非常驚奇了。］

We are now living in a beautiful new house in the country。 Work on it had begun before my sister left。 The house was completed five months ago。

［我們現在住在鄉間的一棟漂亮的新住宅裡。這棟房子在我姐姐離開之前就已動工了，是在5個月以前竣工的。］

In my letter， I told her that she could stay with us。 The house has many large rooms and there is a lovely garden。

［我在信中告訴她，她可以和我們住在一起。這棟房子裡有許多房間，還有一個漂亮的花園。］

It is a very modern house， so it looks strange to some people。 It must be the only modern house in the district。

［它是一棟非常現代化的住宅，因此在有些人看來很古怪。它肯定是這個地區唯一的一棟現代化住宅。］

[1] get surprise. surprise“使人驚奇，意外的事物”，是可數名詞。

[2] Work on it had begun. . .，住宅的建設在. . . . . . 就開始了，work是名詞，作主語，it指房屋。

there ： There+be+sb。+doing+地點 ： 某地有某人正在做某事（典型句型）

［2］ there ： 在表示天氣的時候， 後面如果是動詞或形容詞， 用it， 如果是名詞， 用there be。

［4］ There be +名詞 ： There is a rain。 那兒有一場雨
