Edge具有多重用法和意義，名詞“邊緣、刀鋒、優勢、語氣、特質”，動詞“挪動、逼退、險勝”更是和Edge搭不上邊。

知道這些意思不重要，重點在：“要怎麼用這些Edge？ 讓Edge成為自己的Competitive Edge（競爭優勢）！”

【名詞的Edge】

邊緣的Edge

坐在床邊：sit on at the edge of the bed

站在湖邊：stand at the edge of the lake

河邊喝酒：drink at the water’s edge

手機外邊：the outer edge of the phone

瀕臨的Edge，介係詞用at或on

* at the edge比較實際面、on the edge比較精神面

瀕臨精神崩潰：on the edge of nervous breakdown

瀕臨經濟崩潰：on the edge of financial crash

瀕臨混亂：at the edge of chaos

瀕臨懸崖：at the edge of a cliff

刀鋒的Edge

* Edge和Blade不同，Blade是整片刀，Edge是刀刃

鋒利的刀：a knife with a sharp edge

六寸鋸齒邊的刀： a six-inch blade with a jagged edge

優勢的Edge

取得優勢： get an edge

擁有優勢： have an edge over the rivals

強化優勢： sharpen the competitive edge

弱化優勢： blunt the edge

語氣的Edge

* 帶生氣或不耐煩的語氣

語帶敵意： an edge of hostility in the voice

語帶威脅： an edge of menace in the voice

語帶絕望： an edge of desperation in the voice

（人在絕望的時候會大聲疾呼、做最後掙扎）

特質的Edge

* Edge的特質是刺激的、危險的、尖銳的、勁爆的

給予特質： give an extra edge to it

帶來特質： bring an edge to it

【動詞的Edge】

動詞Edge有兩個基本意義：“緩慢移動”和“加邊緣”

Edge，一步一步緩緩移動，特別是側身用肩膀擠過人群

Edge my way through the crowd

（側身擠過人群）

也可以用別人的肩膀擠過人群

Edge her way towards the exit

（幫她往出口擠）

也可以擠進大家的談話

Edge myself into the conversation

（努力加入大家的聊天）

Edge，加邊緣，通常是裝飾用

Lace edged pillowcase（蕾絲邊枕頭套）

Leaves being edged with frost （結霜的葉子）

【動詞短語裡的Edge】

常用短語：Edge something/someone Out （of…）

慢慢退出、排擠

She edged the car out of the parking space。

（她小心翼翼把車從停車場退出來）

The new manager was trying to edge me out of my job。

（新來的經理打算把我逼走）

常用短語：Edge someone (Out)

【美】險勝對手，介係詞Out加強語氣，可省略

* 不論用主動式還是被動式，比數都是高分的在前

Bulls edged Lakers 99-98。

（公牛隊以99比98險勝湖人）

Lakers were edged out 99-98 by Bulls。

（湖人隊以98比99些微比數輸給公牛）

常用短語：Edge Up, 逐漸增加

Our revenue edged up but remained near three-month lows。

加強語氣、增加言語的犀利度

Do you still love me？ Fiona said， worry edging her voice。

【形容詞的Edged】

Edged一般都是以組合單詞的形式存在。

常用詞：Two-Edged， Double-Edged

一語雙關，兩種意義或兩種用途，一好一壞，雙面刃

It sounds like a two-edged compliment to me。

（這稱讚聽起來亦褒亦貶）

Your plan is a double-edged sword。

（你的計劃是一副雙面刃）

常用詞：Hard-Edged

冷酷無情的

You can’t talk sense to a hard-edged man。

（跟冷酷無情的人沒什麼道理可談的）

【名詞短語的Edge】

常用短語：On Edge，緊張、焦躁不安

* 和on the edge不同，on the edge是瀕臨某邊緣

I felt so on edge before the interview。

（我面試前心情非常緊張）

The dog crying at night set my teeth on edge。

（晚上狗叫聲讓我心裡很不舒服）

* Set one’s teeth on edge 令人很不舒服

常用短語：On the Edge of one’s Seat

正襟危坐、全神貫注、目不轉睛

This movie would keep you on the edge of your seat。

最先進、最前沿、優勢

常用詞：Leading Edge

先驅、領先優勢

* leading edge 不但是cutting edge，而且居於領導地位

This is a leading-edge technology。

（這是領先的科技）

專用詞：Edge City，邊陲城市、衛星城

* 在大都會邊陲地帶興建的衛星城市，具備典型城市全部功能。
