Grow有三個意思，你知道幾個？

Soil、earth、mud、dirt、dust這幾個詞有什麼區別？

鐵鍬到底是spade還是shovel？

今天是植樹節，雖然我們找不到戶外植樹的場地，但是在自己家的花盆裡種點東西，還是可以實現的。

美國的National Planting Day是不久前才設立的，時間是在9月Labor Day（勞工節）後的第一個星期六。但是，在4月22日的Earth Day（地球日）種樹早已是一種傳統，很多學校會在這一天舉辦tree-planting ceremony（種樹儀式）。

Mom： Would you like to

媽媽：今年春天你想不想

點花和蔬菜？

Grow：種，亦可用plant，但grow還包含使之生長的各種照料。植物相關的場景中，grow有三個意思：（1） 種、（2） 生長、（3） 長出……，在文中都會涉及到。

Child： Yes， please！

寶寶：嗯！

Mom： Okay， first we need some little

pots

， and

soil

。

媽媽：好的，咱們先找幾個小

花盆

鏟子

和

土

。

亦可將soil替換為dirt和earth，soil、earth、mud、dirt、dust這幾個詞的比較見文章結尾。

在美式英語中，spade = trowel =

鏟子，在英式英語中，spade = shovel = 鐵鍬。在英式英語中，spade和shovel的細微區別是，spade是平頭的，shovel是尖頭的，但通常可以混用。

the big bag and put it into our little pots， filling them almost

Next， we put a few seeds into the soil。

Then， we gently

Mom： That is right， so we will put these on the

， we can move them into the

back garden

into bigger pots。

We will first start by putting them outside during the day and bringing them inside at night。

That way they can

get used to

being outside。

Once they are ready， we need to

dig a

little

hole

with our trowel in the soil。

到時候我們需要用鏟子在土裡

Then we will gently take the

seedling

out of the little pot and put it into the hole。

(1) Dirt 土
